Victor

Victor L. Powell has served as the senior leader of Rhema Word Cathedral in Albany, Georgia, for more than 33 years. A native of Chicago, Illinois, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserves before beginning his career in law enforcement. Mr. Powell served as a sergeant at the Georgia Probation Detention Center and was the first trainer at Autry State Prison. He then served as a public safety instructor, first at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center and then at the Georgia Juvenile Justice Academy. Mr. Powell has provided training on team-building, diversity, conflict resolution, and resilient leadership for law enforcement agencies and corresponding professional organizations; colleges and universities; and local, regional, and state housing authorities. He now serves as a subject-matter expert for the National Suicide Awareness for Law Enforcement Officers Program. Mr. Powell has received numerous honors for his service, including the Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Award and recognition from the Albany mayor’s office, the Georgia House of Representatives, and the U.S. Congress. Mr. Powell has authored more than six books and received an honorary doctoral degree in theology from Western Theological Seminary. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biblical studies from Moriah Bible College and has trained for certification as a life coach. Mr. Powell is also a certified mediator. In addition, he has completed studies in the clinical pastoral chaplaincy program and was an on-staff chaplain at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
